Telegram traffic vs paid ads: comparing the real cost

Ad spend is a bid at an auction; comment and chat traffic is a fixed cost that scales with accounts. How to compare the two honestly.

Telegram traffic vs paid ads: comparing the real cost

The two ways of getting people out of Telegram cost money in structurally different ways, and comparing them by the headline number tells you almost nothing. Here is what actually differs.

What you pay for in a paid post

You pay an admin for a placement. The price is set by what other advertisers are willing to pay for the same audience, so in crowded niches it rises whether or not your offer improved. You also carry the risk of buying into an inflated channel — the money leaves, the clicks do not arrive.

What you get in exchange is speed and a known ceiling. The post goes out today and the result is visible within a day.

What you pay for in comment and chat traffic

You pay for accounts, proxies, a language model key and a subscription. None of those depend on what competitors bid. Volume is capped by something else: how many accounts you run and how hard you can safely run them.

What you give up is speed. Nothing happens on day one, and the first month is mostly setup and warm-up.

The comparison that works

Divide monthly spend by the number of people who arrived and stayed a month. Do it separately for each source. That single number is comparable across methods; cost per click is not, because click quality differs enormously between an ad and a conversation.

Do it per source rather than in aggregate, which needs tagged links — see tracking Telegram traffic.

Where each one wins

  • Paid posts win when you already know the audience converts and want volume fast, or when the niche is small enough that a handful of channels covers it.
  • Comment traffic wins when the niche is expensive to buy into, when you need a steady flow rather than spikes, or when the same accounts also handle replies. See comment marketing.

The mistake both ways

Sending traffic to an empty channel. It fails identically whichever source paid for it — see how to grow a channel from zero and buying ads in channels.

How Neurogram does this

Everything above is manual work that runs into the number of hours in a day. Neurogram does it on your own accounts and without you: it collects channels and audiences, writes comments and replies with a language model, and keeps limits and quiet hours so the accounts survive. See pricing or look at your case.
