A mention log: why a repeat costs more than a miss

Why a log of who was mentioned is needed, what a repeat does, and why that log must not clean itself.

A mention log: why a repeat costs more than a miss

The same stranger mentioned a second time in a week reads it differently from the first. The first mention is curiosity. The second is pushiness. The third is a complaint.

Why sorting the list does not solve it

Lists get rebuilt: some names leave, others arrive. A person collected from a chat in March lands in the March batch and again in the May one — same chat, same membership. Without a separate log of who has been mentioned, repeats are inevitable.

How the log works

  • It is permanent. A mention log must not clean itself: «long ago» is not an excuse, and six months on it is a record of your relationship with that person.
  • It keeps dates. Sometimes a repeat is fine — many months on, with a genuinely different offer. Without a date that cannot be judged.
  • It is separate from the publication log. What you posted and who you mentioned are different questions.

What the log gives you in practice

Besides fewer complaints, it answers «have we been through this list at all?». Without it, that only becomes clear from the response rate, which is to say afterwards.

A blocklist is something else

The mention log says «we have spoken». A blocklist says «never speak to this one». The second is separate and filled by hand: people who asked you to stop, competitors, admins of the places you collect from. The same in outreach — blocklists and repeat protection.

How Neurogram does this

Everything above is manual work that runs into the number of hours in a day. Neurogram does it on your own accounts and without you: it collects channels and audiences, writes comments and replies with a language model, and keeps limits and quiet hours so the accounts survive. See pricing or look at your case.
