How to get traffic from Telegram, and what it actually costs

The five real traffic sources on Telegram — paid posts, comments, chats, direct messages and cross-posting — and the limit each one runs into.

How to get traffic from Telegram, and what it actually costs

Telegram has no recommendation feed. Nothing will show your post to a person who is not already subscribed, and the in-app search matches channel names, not what is written inside them. Every visitor arrives because you went and got them. That single fact shapes everything below.

1. Paid posts in other channels

You pay an admin, they publish a post about you. Fast and predictable.

The limit is price. In crowded niches — crypto, trading, finance — the people bidding for the same audience close deals worth thousands, and the cost per subscriber reflects that. On top of that sits the risk of buying into an inflated channel: the money leaves, the clicks do not arrive.

When it makes sense. After you know the audience converts. Paid traffic into an empty channel is the fastest way to spend a budget and learn nothing.

2. Comments under other people's posts

Most channels have discussions enabled. A comment under a fresh post is read by everyone who opened that discussion, your name is clickable, and it costs nothing.

The limit is time. A comment written an hour after publication is the twentieth in the thread and nobody scrolls that far. To get a stream of clicks you need to be present in dozens of channels and react within minutes.

When it makes sense. From day one. It is the only source that needs neither a budget nor an existing audience.

3. Topic chats

A warmer contact than a comment: in a chat there is a conversation, people recognise you, they ask you things.

The limit is speed. There is no fast version. You have to become a regular first, and only then does mentioning your own work read as normal. Skipping that step ends with a ban from the moderator.

When it makes sense. In services, consulting and B2B, where the decision runs through trust, chats produce better enquiries than anything else.

4. Direct messages

Writing to a person you found by a signal: they are in a professional chat, they commented on a post about your topic, they follow a competitor.

The limit is risk and the text. The same message sent down a list reads as spam from the first line, and complaints restrict accounts faster than any volume threshold. Only a personal message works, and a personal message does not scale by hand.

When it makes sense. When the deal size justifies the effort. In services and B2B, yes. In cheap mass-market products, almost never.

5. Cross-posting from other platforms

If you already have an audience on YouTube, a newsletter or a blog, this is the cheapest traffic available.

The limit is having that audience — and the fact that a bare link is not enough. People need a reason to subscribe in a second place when they already read you in the first.

Choosing between them

  • No budget, no audience. Comments and chats. Slow, and it is the only door.
  • No budget, audience elsewhere. Cross-post first, then comments.
  • Budget available. Still start with the free sources for two weeks. They tell you which phrasings land, and those phrasings then go into the ads and save you money.

More on the individual pieces: finding the channels and running it without doing it by hand.

How Neurogram does this

Everything above is manual work that runs into the number of hours in a day. Neurogram does it on your own accounts and without you: it collects channels and audiences, writes comments and replies with a language model, and keeps limits and quiet hours so the accounts survive. See pricing or look at your case.
