Two ways to reach a stranger in Telegram. They do not substitute for each other: the risk and the pace are different.
Risk
A comment is a public message in a group you belong to. To Telegram that is ordinary activity. A direct message to a stranger is what spam restrictions exist for, and it accounts for most of them.
The difference is structural: commenting can start in an account's first days, outreach only after warm-up and with care.
Speed
A campaign delivers to everyone on the list at once. Commenting waits for a post: until something is published there is nothing to comment on. So your volume depends on the venues' activity rather than your intentions.
Response
A direct message will almost certainly be read — and almost certainly read as spam if you are strangers. A comment is seen by fewer people and intrudes on nobody: it is read voluntarily, and the visit to your profile happens by the reader's decision rather than despite it.
How to choose
- A cold audience that does not know you — commenting. It builds recognition safely.
- A warm list that has heard of you — messages. There they work and draw almost no complaints.
- A niche where reputation is fragile — commenting only.
Together
The working combination: commenting brings people to your profile and channel, and messaging goes to those who subscribed. The second step stops being cold, and the response rate changes accordingly. Tools are on the automation page.
